George VI Silver Butter Knife, Kirby Beard, 1945
This is a George VI Sterling Silver Butter Knife in the Old English Thread and Bow pattern. The butter knife or spreader has the traditional scimitar shaped blade with the thread and bow design on the upper side of the handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The butter knife is made in Sheffield by Kirby Beard Ltd and dates to the end of the Second World War in 1945. Kirby Beard Ltd were primarily known as stainless steel cutlers but did make some items in Sterling Silver between the mid-1920s and mid-1940s.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 75 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The butter knife is 13.9cm / 5.5ins long and weighs a respectable 18.6g / 0.66oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter C for 1945 and the K B Ld in conjoined circles makers' mark for Kirby Beard Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
