This is a handsome and practical George V Sterling Silver Handled Magnifying Glass. The glass lens is held in a silver plated rim with the sculpted Sterling Silver handle screwing on to the bottom.

The magnifying glass was made by renowned silversmiths Adie & Lovekin and assayed in Chester in 1918. Founded in 1863 by James Adie and Alfred Lovekin, the firm specialised in flatware, fancy goods, silver jewellery and particularly sewing related items. Their pin cushions are highly collectable. The original partners passed away in 1913 and 1912 and the firm carried on until around 1930.

Condition is good, with no chips or cracks in the glass lens, a few tiny dings in the handle and a small amount of plate loss to the circular rim. It has clearly been used over the last 100 plus years but not excessively so. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The magnifying glass is 6.6cm / 2.6ins in diameter and 13.5cm / 5.3ins long. It weighs 86.0g / 3oz.

The hallmarks on the silver handle are somewhat rubbed but still okay to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter S for 1918 and the A L Ld makers' mark for Adie & Lovekin Ltd.
