George IV Irish Silver Toddy Ladle, J. Brady, 1829 George IV 1820s Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a well made George IV Irish Sterling Silver Toddy Ladle. The ladle is in the classic Fiddle pattern and the bowl has a pouring lip on one side. There is an initial P elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.

The ladle was made in Dublin by silversmith James Brady and dates to 1829. James Brady was a specialist spoon maker in Dublin who was active between the 1790s and around 1840. There are some other pieces of silver from the same period with a script version of his mark suggesting that he may have done more than spoons and flatware but it’s not certain whether these were made by him or not.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 195 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The ladle is 13cm / 5.1ins long and 3.8cm / 1.5ins across the bowl. It weighs in at a respectable 24.1g / 0.85oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the crowned harp for Irish Sterling Silver, the Hibernia assay mark for Dublin, the date letter I for 1829, the George IV duty mark and the I B makers' mark for James Brady.
