A mahogany writing slope (c.1811) with brass banding, corner brackets and side handles, escutcheon plate with key and matching plain cartouche on the lid. The interior includes the maker’s label (distressed) Sharp, of No. 48, The Corner of Ludgate Hill, London – see photo – which references a royal warrant “To His Royal highness the Prince” presumably of Wales, and comprises the letter holding straps and slope retaining the unmarked green baize together with two glass ink bottles (with faults) & silver plated lids, pen tray and compartments to the top. Beneath the slope is the hidden mechanism which reveals three evenly distributed drawers within the void.
