George III Mahogany Striking Verge Bracket Clock
A well made brass bound padtop mahogany knife-edge verge bracket antique clock with pull repeat and "silent" lever behind the front door. by F Heitszman c1820.
The arched top mahogany veneered case featuring brass binding to the padtop and door edges is in a most wonderful condition having been subjected to a very careful cleaning process that removes many years of dust, dirt and grime to reveal its original shellac high gloss finish. This process ensures that the case does not need re-lacquering and retains its 200 year old patina. The fish scale fretwork panels to the front and sides have been re-silked in a Georgian Royal Blue colour. ( if you would like a different colour please let me know, I can send colour swatches if you would like this clock to match your room)
The convex painted dial has been carefully cleaned but has not been re-touched or repainted to keep it in an original condition. Again, if you would like the dial to finished to your specification please let me know. As you can see the dial is slightly rubbed and the name Heitszman and Cambridge can clearly be read. Although there is a place name of Cambridge, I cannot find Heitszman at this location. however, the design, manufacture and style of the clock is clearly from London and there is an F Heitszman of 40 Forton Folgate, London. with such an unusual surname I am confident that this clock was manufactured in London and then retailed in Cambridge.
The five knopped pillar knife-edge verge (crownwheel) movement with pull repeat ( cord not attached in photograph -- please specify colour) and silent lever has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind. The highly engraved backplate featuring a table with a wicker basket of sunflowers displayed. The floral theme is carried onto the Knife-edge cover and securing brackets.
