French Four-Glass Clock and Barometer
A rare French 4-glass antique clock and barometer set in a gilded brass case of small proportions, and in excellent condition.
The gilded case has perfect glasses to the four sides, opening doors to the back and front, the dials surrounded with a well-engraved gilt mask.
The 8-day clock movement (photographed pre-servicing) strikes the hours and the passing of the half hours on a bell, and is stamped for S. Marti et Cie with the Bronze medal stamp, which they were awarded in 1860. This was superceded with their being awarded the silver medal in 1889, and so this clock can be dated between these dates. The movement has a Swiss lever platform escapement.
The barometer movement is a super quality, finely made mechanism.
The two 3-inch white enamel dials are in perfect condition, the clock dial with Roman numerals and minute markers, and the barometer dial with English weather predictions, and marked ANEROIDE BAROMETER.
Blued steel hands.
Height 9½" (24cms)
Width 6"
Depth 5"
The movement is currently awaiting servicing, but the price includes a full overhaul and a 3-year guarantee. We are proud to be one of the UK’s finest suppliers of high quality Antique Clocks. We are based in Somerset, but also serve the rest of the UK. We are also delighted to have a number of overseas customers.
