Framed William Simson RSA Oil on Canvas Painting
Artist - William Simson (1798-1847), a Scottish painter and member of the Royal Scottish Academy
Title - The Old Farmer
Details - Oil on canvas painting featuring a man on a horse. Not signed that we can see, although please note that we have not removed it from the frame. Glazed and framed in an antique wooden frame with Sotheby's Belgravia provenance on the back (it was sold as lot 271 in November 1977 - Sotheby's are not mentioned on the frame but we have contacted their archives who have confirmed it was sold with them on this date). There is a plaque with the artist's name and title of the painting on the front of the frame.
Condition - Overall in good condition with good colours, but please note that we have not removed the painting from the frame and so have not checked the area underneath the frame. There is some slight cracking to the paint in places and some dustiness and paint flecking. The frame has some scuffing, knocking and wear as might be expected and there is some cracking to the gesso of the gilt border.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Visible Image Size - 40cm by 34.5cm
Frame - 53cm by 47cm, 5.5cm deep. Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
