Fenton French Opalescent Hobnail 3 Horn Epergne

1 of 6
We are offering for sale this lovely opalescent hobnail glass Epergne by the Fenton Art Glass Company of Williamstown, West Virginia, USA. The Epergne has a frilled bowl with an opalescent rim, with three frilled horns with opalescent rims, and is made in the French Opalescent colourway and the Hobnail pattern. The frog is part of the bowl. This Epergne dates to 1956-1968, as this period was when they were making the French Opalescent colourway. It was made again in 1980, but by this time, all the pieces bore the company logo, which was started in 1974 and this piece does not.
Fenton Art Glass was founded in 1905 in Ohio by Frank L. Fenton and John W. Fenton (left in 1908 to found the Millersburg Glass Company). They moved across the river to Williamstown, West Virginia and built a factory in 1906. They were the first company to introduce carnival glass, which has become highly collectable. Over the years they made a huge range of glass, but the company stopped making glassware in 2011 and is now concentrating on jewellery making. The company is still in the hands of later descendents on the Fenton family.
Diameter of bowl: 8 3/8" - 21.25cm
Height of bowl: 3 1/2" - 8.9cm
Height to top of horns: 6 1/2" - 16.5cm
Condition: Very good. There is no damage to any of the frilled edges. There is a firing flaw to the outside of the bowl, which looks like a crack, but is not, as it is only on the exterior of the bowl, where there is a slight 'ledge' to the glass. The interior is completely smooth. Please see the 5th photo. The price reflects the flaw.
