Ernest H.Payne Oil Painting Roses in a Vase
We are delighted to offer for sale this beautiful and subtly toned oil painting by the artist Ernest Payne, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a white china vase, which is filled with a selection of mainly roses, with a selection of other flowers including pinks, marguerites, white lillies, chrysanthemums and echinops. The vase is sitting on a marble ledge.
This is one of two paintings by this artist that we are currently listing. This is the larger of the two.
Ernest Hart Payne was born in Thingoe in Suffolk in 1903, and appears to have lived in Suffolk his entire life until his death in Bury St. Edmunds in 1994. He specialised in floral still life paintings, although he did do some portraits.
There are two of his paintings in the National Collection, one floral still life and one portrait. Other than this, we have been unable to find out any further biographical details about his life.
Auction results for his work are available at artprice (8 listings) artnet (2), arcadja (5) and findartinfo (11).
The painting is framed in its original 2 3/4" cream and gilt swept frame and is ready to hang.
Medium Oils on canvas
Condition Excellent condition. The canvas is clean and taut and there is no craquelure, paint loss or overpainting. The original frame is in very good condition with no losses.
