Elegant Longcase clock by Thomas Brown of Chester
A very elegant Longcase antique clock by Thomas Brown of Chester, known to have been working in Chester between 1766 & 1784, therefore dating the clock from the early George III era. The case of the clock is in Oak with inlaid Mahogany, the door having a double arched form. The hood has a swan neck pediment with brass decoration.
The glass fronted door is flanked by 2 carved columns mounted on brass fittings. The square face is painted white with gold painted ornate spandrels, the chapter ring marks the hours in roman numerals and the minutes in numbers, with a supplementary dial for seconds and a day of month aperture. The hands are black. The movement is eight day, complete with weights and pendulum and has been recently services and is in good working order. Complete with winder and case key.
