Edwin Dolby 19th C. Watercolour Westminster
We are offering for sale this very finely detailed and executed watercolour by the Victorian painter Edwin Thomas Dolby, who has signed the painting E. Dolby in the lower right hand corner and signed and entitled it verso 'Westminster from the river E. Dolby'. The painting depicts a view of the Thames Embankment, with its globe lights on wrought iron posts along the river wall, and the Houses of Parliament and Big ben to the centre next to Westminster Bridge. The antique clock shows eight o'clock. There are many vessels on the Thames, including a couple of paddle tugs, with smoke rising from their funnels, and some Thames barges. The sky is streaked with pink.
