Edwardian Silver Topped Perfume Bottle, 1905
Here we have a beautiful Edwardian hand blown clear glass Perfume Bottle with an ornate Sterling Silver collar and lid. The bottle is spherical with panelled sides and a star cut base where the pontil mark would have been. The lid and collar are decorated with flowers and scrolls and there is a blank cartouche on the top making it ideal as a gift. The inside of the lid is gold plated.
The perfume bottle is made by William H. Walter in London and dates to 1905. William Harrison Walter was based in Newgate Street in the City of London and was active between the late 1880s and around 1910. Perfume bottles were his specialty and he was extremely good at them!
Condition is extremely good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, just a few bubbles that are inevitable in hand blown pieces. The glass stopper has a truly tiny nibble out of the bottom but fits securely in the neck. There are a couple of equally tiny dings in the silver lid but otherwise this is a true survivor in remarkable condition for 116 years old! Please make sure to view all the photographs.
This is a good size perfume bottle standing 11.8cm / 4.6ins high and is 8cm / 3.1ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs 377.9g / 13.3oz.
The hallmarks on the side of the collar are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter k for 1905 and the W.H.W makers' mark for William Harrison Walter.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the perfume bottle.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
