Edwardian Silver Bonbon Basket, Birmingham, 1902

Here we have a very attractive Edwardian Sterling Silver Bonbon Basket. The basket is circular with a flat base, pierced sides and a gadrooned rim. Originally intended for wrapped sweets, today it is ideal for nuts or snacks, dressing table items or on a desk.
The basket is made in Birmingham by Saunders & Shepherd and dates to 1902. The wonderfully named Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis (Frank) Hollings Shepherd were partners in a high end retail and manufacturing business based in Holborn Circus in the City of London between 1878 and about 1930.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents, no damage to the delicate pierced sides and only the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The basket is 9.4cm / 3.7ins in diameter and 4.7cm / 1.8ins high. It weighs a respectable 47.4g / 1.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the inside base of the bonbon basket are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter c for 1902 and the CSFS makers' mark for Cornelius Saunders & Frank Shepherd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
