Edwardian Cut Glass Perfume Bottle w/Silver Collar
Here we have a beautiful and unusual Edwardian Cut Glass Perfume Bottle with a Sterling Silver Collar. The bottle has been shaped and then deep cut to resemble a crown and then topped off with a star shaped deep cut stopper. This was almost certainly made to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII in 1902.
The perfume bottle is made in Birmingham by silversmiths T. Woolley and dates to 1902, the coronation year. T. Wooley actually specialised in church silver but also made a range of silver mounted glassware such as decanters, perfume bottles, condiment sets and preserve jars. Founded in 1898 they remained in business into the early 1920s.
Condition is very good with just a tiny chip in the glass inside the silver rim and a nibble to the bottom of the stopper. There is some slight fogging to the inside of the glass but this disappears when it is filled with liquid. The silver collar has a couple of very small dings, which seems to be inevitable with scent bottles. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bottle is 8.7cm / 3.4ins across, 5.2cm / 2ins deep and stands 12.7cm / 5ins high. It weighs in at 354.5g / 12.5oz.
The hallmarks on the silver collare are quite rubbed after many years of polishing but can still be deciphered. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter c for 1902 and the T.W makers' mark for T. Wooley.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
