Early Naïve Watercolour – Ramsgate?? Kent - 1809
This is one of three delightful early naïve watercolours of Kent we are selling this week. This comes from a collection of paintings that were painted in the summer of 1809. It is naïve in nature, but shows in beautiful detail the harbour and all the tall ships as well as the town behind. I believe this to be Ramsgate, but the pencil inscription is unreadable. The painting is watercolour on paper, with predominantly grey tones and comes from a collection that has a link to Edward Duncan, but this is too early to have been by him. The paper is 27cm x 23cm and the image 23cm x 17cm.
