This is a fine and early English fusee wall antique clock with a convex wooden dial of 16. inches diameter signed Starkey and dated 1808.
It was made just after the Tavern clock era and shares certain similarities between them . Its large size is very unusual and the clock really does make a statement.
Such clocks are very rare and difficult to source particularly in this kind of condition.
I offer a full money back guarantee as to the authenticity of my antique clocks.I also welcome any expert appraisal whatsoever.
Obviously, any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase.
The A shaped plate fusee driven movement is of 8 day duration and is made of the finest London quality and is in working condition but will be professionally serviced prior to sale.
The original finish is present and the patina is perfect particularly the dial that has fine crazing all over which is a reassuring sign of originality on wooden dialed clocks. There are several close up images to show the dial and the case in detail and to show the excellent colour and finish.
The overall condition is outstanding being original and well looked after.
There is ,of course, the odd age related mark as you would expect on any item of this age but the condition is a good as anyone could possibly expect. The flame mahogany veneer on the front has some shrinkage cracking but please remember it is 210 years old and has not be re polished !
This there is a side inspection door and a locking bottom door
The 16 inch one piece dial is in excellent condition and signed by the maker and the blued steel hands are original. The black work has been refreshed.. The heavy cast brass locking concave bezel is particularly nice and unusually it retains much of its original gilding which has patinated nicely (this can reluctantly be polished at the buyers request)and the amount of mahogany surround visible is very small indeed..
Hopefully the images will show interested parties all they need to see.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks very impressive on the wall.Prospective buyers are encouraged to view this clock if at at possible
It is a total of 18 inches in diameter and is 6 1/2 inches deep. The width to the edge of the wooden bezel is 18 inches
If the asking price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge to the English mainland,Wales and the Scottish lowlands.I will also provide a 12 months guarantee under these circumstances. This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads
If a lesser off is accepted then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer.
I will ship this clock worldwide.
Domestic buyers are asked to use alternative means of payment to Pay Pal if at all possible.
