This is an attractive Early 20th Century Silver Plate 4 Cup Egg Cruet. The cruet has an oval base with a thread and bow rim, four egg cups with matching thread & bow rims and beaded bases and a heart shaped handle holding four teaspoons.

The stand and egg cups are made in Sheffield by R.F. Mosley & Co and the teaspoons are made in Sheffield by Walker & Hall and are dated to 1908. R.F. Mosley & Co was founded by Robert Fead Mosley in Sheffield around 1860 although his family had been in related industries since the early 1800s. The firm was initially set up as cutlers and scissor makers but quickly moved into electroplating. The business continued until 1935 when it was dissolved. Walker & Hall are one of the most famous names in English silverware and electroplating.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. The only issue is that the spikes in the base for two of the egg cups are missing but it remains perfectly functional without them. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The base is 21.6cm / 8.5ins by 15.8cm / 6.2ins and the set stands 16.2cm / 6.4ins high. It weighs in at 637g / 22.47oz.

The underside of the base is stamped EPNS for silver plate and M & Co for R.F. Mosley & Co. The backs of the teaspoons are stamped EP A1 for best quality silver plate, W & H S and the W & H in a pennant trademark for Walker & Hall, Sheffield and the silver plate Greek X date letter for 1908.
