Large vintage planter’s armchair from Dutch East India (later Indonesia) c.1950. Planter’s chairs were designed for relaxing in during the heat of the day. Typical of the form the lower section of the arms spin open to make long foot rests so you can stretch out in the shade. The wide canework seat and racked backrest allowing the breeze to cool you as you snooze. A good example of the form with a shapely teak frame and attractively woven rattan canework. Turned front legs and stretchers. Note the Dutch Indies coins (dated 1945) set into the arms above the pivot points. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
