Deacon of Barton Longcase Clock


A very fine Longcase Clock by the famous Deacon Family of Barton in the Beans ,Leicestershire . Clocks by this family are always highly regarded and much sought after . This very good 8 day example dates from the early 19th century . Both antique clock and case are very genuine and in very good condition .
The attractive painted dial showing Britannia in the arch and has Arabic numbers . The movement is high class work and has the typical baluster shaped pillars that Deacon used on his high class work .
Case is of good proportions and a typical example of Deacons cases . Mainly of Oak with mahogany decoration . With attractive Corinthian capitals to the hood pillars and cantered corners to the trunk .
Samuel Deacon trained under Joseph Donisthorpe of near by Normanton .He later set up in business on his own at Barton and other family members continued the business . His workshop was re created in Newarkhouses Museum in Leicester with the original contents that were discovered at the Deacon home in original workshop .
