Circa 1900 Brass Inlaid Two Handle Serving Tray 1900 Mahogany Brass Inlay %%alt5%%
Dating from around 1900, this is a great example of an antique, English, large mahogany two handle oval serving tray. It is inlaid with a brass central cartouche, typical design form of the late Victorian and early Edwardian period. The continuous solid gallery is a thin ribbon of bent wood and each end has a well formed brass carrying handle, the photographs show how the design has little details that show through. The handle is cast to provide maximum support and not stress the gallery.

The condition of this tray is A1, we have elected to give this one a thorough revive and new polish as it is unusual and warranted a bit extra as the wood is all sound, no splits nor repairs anywhere, and the handles are mounted and seated perfectly. Nothing is loose. The surface has been professionally revived, so the original signs of use and patina are still apparent. The brass inlay is properly the highlight of the tray. Please note the lighting for the photography has made the colour lighter than it actually is in normal daylight

The base has felt/baize pads.

Size: The maximum at the base length is 64 cm (25 1/4 inches) , the width 42cm (16 1/2 inches) and height base to top of gallery 3cm (1 1/4 inches).

This is a real beauty of a period tray, honest , clean and in the best possible shape.

It is our normal policy to avoid any excessive restoration on any item, we have found that the two schools of thought ( restore or not restore) are best served by offering sound, clean and ready to use items where the choice to go any further is with the new owner
