A rare boxed 1950s Stratton "Empress" enamel cigarette or card case. This case has the most exquisitely beautiful enamel lid which is a joy to behold. The black enamel background is super and set atop in relief is a beautiful floral display. The case is absolutely beautiful and there isn't any enamel loss. Set atop the enamel are tiny glass beads which form the charming floral display. They are tiny and subtle - visible through a jeweller's loupe. The technique is known as ballotini . When you see an item of this quality it reaffirms exactly why the vintage Stratton brand has such a huge and loyal following. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. It is so typical of Stratton to feature a clever design. The cigarette clip can be moved to accommodate both lengths of cigarettes available in the 1950s - standard and king size. So this means that this case can accommodate modern cigarettes too as well as bank notes, business and credit / debit cards. The cigarette clip is signed " Stratton REG....PAT NO 851743." The inner case & back of the cigarette case are decorated pretty vertical stripes. We have only ever seen two such cases and we acquired both of them. A remarkably beautiful mid-century Stratton accessory!
The vintage cigarette case measures 9.5 cm X 8.5 cm & weighs 93.7 grams.
