C19th Danish Bornholm Painted Grandfather Clock
This attractive longcase grandfather antique clock dates from the late nineteenth century and we believe it to be of North European origins. It has 'Salzwedel Lohals' stencilled on the back of the case, but we are unsure of the significance of this. The clock case is constructed from a mix of oak and pine that has been painted in the North European style. We believe the paintwork to be original. It is painted cream with gold edging and has a nice picture of two birds on a branch near the bottom. The case has a narrow opening door to the main body and a glazed door that opens to reveal the clock face. The hood can be removed from the main body of the case.
The clock retains its original eight-day movement. There are no names on the movement that we can see. The movement has a bell chime, and retains its two weights, pendulum and key. It does appear to be in basic working order, but does need some work in order to run properly. The striking hammer is bent and the clock face is missing a supporting bar from the top. Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.

Condition The clock movement appears to be in basic working order, but it does need some work. The movement is dirty and would certainly benefit from being cleaned and serviced. The clock face is slighly bent, and the hands are a little loose. There is some scuffing, knocking and quite heavy wear to the paintwork as might be expected and the base of the clock case has some wood shrinkage cracking to the front and sides. There is some heavy wear and paint loss around the bottom of the case. There is a piece of moulding missing from the back right-hand side of the case at the bottom. There are some signs of old woodworm to the case - this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. There are some signs of old repair.
