Art Nouveau Pewter 1 Pt Tankard, T. Land, c.1920s

This is a very stylish late Art Nouveau Pewter One Pint Tankard with a Glass Bottom. The tankard has a circular pewter rimmed glass base, a planished body of chimney pot form and a whiplash handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The tankard was made in Sheffield by T. Land & Son as part of their Civic Pewter range and dates to the early 1920s. The firm was founded by Henry Land in Sheffield in the 1840s as electroplaters. The firm was very successful but following his wife’s death in 1869, Henry had many personal issues and the company suffered. His son Tom rebuilt the business in the 1880s as electroplaters and pewterers and it became T. Land & Son around 1900. They used the trademark CIVIC from around 1920 onwards.
Condition is very good, with no dents in the body, no chips or cracks in the glass and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after around 100 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tankard has a 568ml / 1 pint capacity. It is 13.2cm / 5.2ins from rim to handle, 11cm / 4.3ins in diameter across the base and 11cm / 4.3ins high. It weighs in at 568g / 20oz.
The underside of the base is stamped CIVIC PEWTER and MADE IN ENGLAND.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
