Splendid Flemish painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a moment of the Passion of Christ, an Ecce Homo of remarkable pictorial quality. Ecce Homo is the phrase that Pontius Pilate, Roman governor of Judea, pronounced while showing the people Jesus being flagellated. As if to say "here is the man, do you see that I have punished him?", but we know that this was not enough and he was crucified. In fact, we find Christ at the center of the composition with the crown of thorns, while an executioner violently ties his wrists. On the left we see a man with a splendid turban and dark beard, probably identifiable with the Priest of the temple. The expressive rendering of the faces, the attention to detail and the dramatic tension give the painting an extraordinary emotional intensity and refer to the late German Gothic tradition. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and recoloring in small spots. Overall in good condition.
