This is a quality set of Chinese gouache watercolour studies of birds which date from the mid 19th Century. The paintings depict the birds in naturalistic settings and are extremely well executed. Painted on pith in strong gouache colours, all four are in really good condition for their age. Each is framed by a single narrow peach ribbon as was typical of the time and they have more recently been mounted and displayed in champagne gilt frames which suit them well.

The four pictures measure 42.5 cms by 35.5 cms including the frames.
