This is a lovely, serene head and shoulders pastel portrait of a young woman by Annis M. C. Campbell, who has signed it indistinctly in the lower right hand corner. The pastel was executed in 1908, according to a label on the reverse, at the age of 18 years and shows a remarkable talent. The subject has dark hair, pulled back into a black bow at the nape of her neck and is wearing a shawl around her shoulders. The artist has captured the details of the face is great detail.

Unfortunately, as Scottish records are scanty and there are many Campbells, we have been unable to discover any biographical information about the artist, save that given on the label. The pastel was framed in Edinburgh and we believe the artist to be Scottish as Annis is the mediaeval form of Agnes in Scotland.

The painting is framed in a 2" cream and gilt swept frame and cream slip and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
