Albert Pollitt 1856-1926 W/colour Coastal Scene
We are offering for sale this very well executed watercolour by the artist Albert Pollitt, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner and dated it 1907. The painting depicts a group of woman collecting mussels from the rocks at the foot of a rocky headland at low tide. There are seagulls wheeling overhead and a yacht out in the bay.
Albert Pollitt, 2856-1926, was born in the North West of England and lived in Manchester, Warrington and, for the last 15 years of his life, in North Wales. He painted landscapes and marines in the Cox tradition, mainly scenes in the North West and Wales, and his work is desirable and well collected.
He exhibited from 1885 until his death, at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, 7 paintings, and at the Manchester City Art Gallery, 31 paintings, where examples of his work may be seen.
He is listed in The Dictionary of Victorian Painters by Christopher Wood, The Dictionary of British Artists (Collectors'Club), Painters in the Norther Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child and The Dictionary of British Watercolour Artists by Mallalieu.
