A Stunning Flame Mahogany Georgian Bracket Clock By Simson of Southampton, Having had a total restoration including case, dial and movement this regency period antique clock looks stunning! When acquired last year the case was in a very bad state having been kept in a hot, dry house for some considerable time. The veneers were loose, but luckily all present and the dial was scrubbed, damaged by careless hand movement and dirty.. the movement had not been touched for over 20 years but quite remarkably not too worn. Completing the case first, every piece of veneer was removed, cleaned and re-vitalised then carefully re-installed onto the rebuilt superstructure. Because of the room environment all the original glue had simply dried out and every joint was loose. The brass inlay was removed, cleaned and polished. When back together, the clock was French polished as it would have been originally. The original dial luckily still retained its makers name and the style was quite unique in its application. Following the fine inlay to the case, the lettering for the maker Simson was in a cross grain pattern. Stephen Simson is recorded as working in Southampton between 1830-1839. The substantial five pillar movement striking on a bell has been fully overhauled and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind. This clock looks amazing in its fully restored splendour and is available at £2450 With over twenty years experience in restoring and conserving clocks and working on some of the finest and complicated clocks for a select group of the best antique clock dealers in the country.
