A Stunning Ebonised and Brass Inlay Bracket Clock by Ellicott and Smith c1830, This is rather rare and fine ebonised and brass inlay bracket antique clock by Ellicott and Smith c1830. This partnership was the last in the line of eminent clockmakers that culminated in a fine pedigree of beautifully made timepieces. As well as being clockmakers to the King, this family had a long history of innovative inventions. This fine clock with a substantial five pillar movement featuring pull repeat and semi deadbeat escapement makes this clock very quiet in operation. The engraving on the backplate is exquisite and has been done by a talented craftsman. Even the fixing brackets match perfectly with the flowing twisting vine that runs around the plate. The very original painted dial is over 190 years old and still retains its original paint, the dial has never been restored and has a patina that simply cannot be replicated. I made a conscious decision not to restore the dial although there are the odd marks, I feel it would have ruined the overall original condition that this clock displays proudly. A wonderful timepiece in a most lovely condition. With over twenty years experience in restoring and conserving clocks and working on some of the finest and complicated clocks for a select group of the best antique clock dealers in the country.
