A pair of 18thc. engravings by Charles Knight
Description
A wonderful pair of extremely charming stipple engravings, by Charles Knight, after original paintings by John Hodges Benwell. Both in beautiful oval giltwood frames, dating from the late 18th century – around 1785. Depicting a mother with child and, separately, a mother whose heart has been pierced by an arrow fired by Cupid, these prints encapsulate the best of Georgian romantic printmaking.
Charles Knight, the engraver, engraved subjects after many prominent painters, including James Northcote, John Hoppner and many others.
John Hodges Benwell studied at the Royal Academy and achieved some degree of fame.
Condition
In excellent antique condition. Beautiful giltwood oval frames.
