A Georgian Quarter Chiming Mahogany Longcase Clock %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A rather nice quarter chiming longcase clock by David Lestourgeon c1750.
The fine flame mahogany case with circular glazed panels to the sides of the hood allow the impressive eight bell to be seen. The case has been sympathetically cleaned, I have carefully removed the many years of dust, dirt and soot to reveal its original shellac high gloss finish. All locks have been overhauled and come with a corresponding key.

The very well made large knopped pillar movement has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind.

His Grandfather also David (1660-1731) was born in Rouen and came to London in 1681 as a Huguenot refugee. The Huguenots were French Protestants in the 16th-17th century and were persecuted by the French catholic government of Louis XV. Many of them were very talented craftsmen and quickly found a niche in clockmaking. There is quite a lot of research material available about this entrepreneurial group of people. His Father David (II) 1681-1731 worked for a number of London’s eminent makers including Tompion, Knibb and Massey and this standard was clearly passed to his son David (III) (1721-1751) who made this antique clock. Every wheel, pinion, pivot and steel part has been finished to the highest of standards. The antique clock plays the Whittington tune every quarter of an hour and can be silenced if needed. The cast brass dial has been sympathetically cleaned and shows off the hand punched and hand engraved centre beautifully. I'm still unsure whether to re-silver the chapter rings so will leave them for now, if you would like me to silver the rings then please let me know.

A good opportunity to acquire a well made quarter chiming longcase clock by a famous Huguenot family of clockmakers.
