A Georgian Padtop Flame Mahogany Bracket Clock
A well proportioned Padtop flame mahogany bracket antique clock with an untouched painted dial retailed by Wales & McCullock, London
The lovely original flame mahogany case with brass fretwork panels to the front and original glazed panels to the sides and rear. The brass bound padtop complete with substantial brass handle. The overall size is 34cm high (handle down), 29cm wide and wider than usual 22cm deep. These dimensions give the clock a pleasing shorter stance compared with a standard bracket antique clock. The glazed panels to the sides and rear allow the fully restored movement to be seen during operation. The clock has been carefully cleaned layer by layer to remove years of dirt, dust and grime to reveal its original shellac high gloss finish, although labour intensive, this give the clock a finish that is as near to original as possible.
The substantial five pillar double chain fusee movement with anchor escapement has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind. The backplate is beautifully engraved with the makers name Dawson and Peene London. Although the partnership is unrecorded the quality of the movement is very good and clearly shows the skills of these makers. They were almost certainly suppliers of movements to specialist finishing houses. One such house is the famous company Wales and McCullock of Cheapside London. Wales and McCullock were renowned suppliers of high quality antique clocks.
The 7inch painted dial still retains its original painted surface and inkwork and shows no signs of rubbing of delamination. The dial is complimented with two finely cut open Breguet style gilt brass hands.
A good opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored Georgian period bracket clock in a most wonderful original condition. With over twenty years experience in restoring and conserving clocks and working on some of the finest and complicated clocks for a select group of the best antique clock dealers in the country.
