8-Day Oak Longcase Clock by Yates, London
An affordable original London pagoda-topped longcase clock by Richard Yates, dating from the 1760s.
The restrained case has honey-coloured oak veneers, with cross-banding to the pagoda top, hood door and base panel. The hood is surmounted with ball and spire brass finials, taking the overall height to 7 feet and 7 inches. The hood door is flanked by freestanding fluted pillars and the trunk has a shaped top long door and canted fluted corners.
The 12-inch one-piece silvered break-arch dial dial has recessed subsidiary seconds indication, a square date aperture and a strike / silent lever strike selector in the arch. It is signed Rich(ar)d Yates, London. Silvered dials were usually very plain when used by London makers, and this is no exception.
Blued steel hands.
Eight day movement, rack- striking on a bell, and with a stike / silent option.
Height 231 cms (91 inches)
Overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
Richard Yates is listed in Baillie’s as working in 1762, and in Brittain’s as 1760. We are proud to be one of the UK’s finest suppliers of high quality Antique Clocks. We are based in Somerset, but also serve the rest of the UK. We are also delighted to have a number of overseas customers.
