Italian painting from the first half of the 20th century. Oil on board painting signed lower right Grassis G. and therefore attributable to the Piedmontese painter Giuseppe Grassis (1870-1949), lacking authentication. His stylistic feature will be the landscape painting but he will create several miniatures for the Royal Palace of Turin and portraits of the aristocracy. The artwork in question seems to be a sketch for the painting entitled "the first thorn". In fact, we see a loving mother intent on removing a thorn from her son's hand in an orientalist-style setting that, due to the chromatic choices, could almost seem like a Madonna and child. Contemporary frame in carved and gilded wood with small passepartout in lacquered wood, with some small signs of aging. Painting overall in excellent condition. Sight size H 42 x W 25 cm.
