19th Century Ormolu & Porcelain French Clock
19th Century Ormolu & Porcelain French Striking Clock retailed by Vieyres and Repingon, Paris. The 8-day round plate movement numbered 339, with silk suspended pendulum also bearing the serial number 339 striking on a bell via locking wheel mechanism is stamped Vieyres and Repingon, was manufactured by Vincenti & Cie, and bears the Medaille D'Argent awarded to the renowned French Clockmakers in 1855. The damage free white enamel dial indicating the hours in Roman Numerals is complimented by blued steel trefoil hands and signed Vieyres and Repingon.
The ormolu case retains its original mercury gilding in pristine condition considering the clock is over 160 years old. The case is flanked by handmade porcelain flowers attached by gilded wires laying in gilded leaves. The gilding on the case surface has been burnished and chased providing a highly polished, stark contrast to the areas of matt appearance in the rococo revival style.
The clock itself stands 23cm high, looks stunning under its original glass dome 37cm in height, is 28cm wide at the base and 10cm deep, and benefits from a recent service by us.
Height:370 mm
Width:280 mm
Depth:100 mm A full strip down and service has been carried out by the Clockbarn, this item is sold with 12 months guarantee.
