19 steel engraved Views of India 1833 Mughal Raj
Nineteen steel engraved Views of India 1833
This is a wonderful and rare selection of views of India from a period long lost in the mists of time! While it is true that many of the buildings shown in these prints were already ancient ruins by the time these were printed in 1833, it is unfortunate that some of them were destroyed in the Indian Mutiny and subsequent battles in 1857.
The prints here are beautifully engraved with a lot of detail on each one – capturing the atmosphere and character of each location. They would look stunning in frames and deserve to be mounted and framed.
Each print contains information about the engraver and the artist as follows:
“Drawn by S Prout
Sketched by Capt. R. Elliot R.N.
Engraved by W. A. Le Petit
Fisher Son and Co. London 1833”
Each one measures 270mm x 210mm
This selection includes the following:
1 Cawnpore
2 Tomb of Shere Shah
3 Tomb of Ibrahim Padshah – Beejapore
4 Shuhur – Jeypore
