1901 Antique Watercolour by P Fletcher Watson
Artist P. Fletcher Watson (1842-1907)
Born in England in 1842, Fletcher Watson arrived in Australia in the 1850s. He lived in Sydney for about ten years where he exhibited with the Art Society of NSW and Victorian Artists Society. By 1894 Fletcher Watson was living in Manchester, England. Three drawings of European cathedral interiors he exhibited at London's Dudley Gallery in 1895 were praised in the Sydney Morning Herald (16 March 1895).
He also exhibited his watercolours in major exhibition venues at Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Dublin (Royal Hibernian Academy) as well as at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Dudley and New Galleries, London. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1903. The following year he was living in Paignton, Devon. He died in England in 1907
