18th Century Childs Windsor Armchair

A mid 18th century childs comb back Windsor armchair. It was made with a superb sense of scale and craftsmanship.
The shaped comb back top rail, elaborately cut fretwork splat, and thin flattened front arm support suggests this is a transitional piece, between the early 18th century country chairs and the development of the late 18th century windsor chair that remains the classic style of country seating.
This charming chair is probably made of ash wood, with an elm seat. Many chairs of this period were originally painted green, and remnants of green can be seen under a Victorian over-painted surface.
This rare and tiny chair is in very good condition, with only an old and stable fracture in the right front of the seat. A lovely 18th century treasure to give to a special person this Christmas! Circa 1760
