An elegant walnut armchair from the 1670s with a caned seat and back panel. It has been re-caned at some point, a very long ago, so looks right, and has met the antique furniture beetle from time to time, walnut being one of their favourite foods. Although no sign of activity on arrival I drenched the chair so as to be absolutely sure the situation was under control. Obviously the worm has weakened the chair slightly but it is still very usable, bearing in mind cane should never be sat on without a squab cushion to spread the weight. This is a large and imposing chair, a thing of beauty, an amazing survivor that deserves and will grace a loving home.
