16th Century Elizabethan Oak Wainscot Chair %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A 16th Century Oak Wainscot Chair Recently Purchased From An East Sussex Manor House.

Circa 1580

A wonderful chair of small proportions with high horizontal arms in total original condition, with a good original surface.

The back which leans back at quite an angle with deep moulded rails, the back panel with a deeply carved Quatrefoil Guilloche with pin wheels in each corner ,a central bold four petal flower with ed thumb scooped infills.

The arms are narrow and horizontal and fixed with a large dovetail to the side .

The single plank seat with moulded edge over stumpy turned legs united by a box stretcher, the rear stretcher is chunky which matches the rear legs.

Pegged all round with slightly raised pegs, crusty build up to the inside stretchers and feet ,nice glowing wear to the inside edge of the arm support ,the colour and surface is as good as it gets.

Worm damage to the sap line at the back of the seat and it has had an extra peg added to the side seat rail to the back, slight movement but still a usable chair.

A great chair and unseen by the market for the past 50yrs.
