Description:
This is a good quality antique 14-inch mahogany Enfield wall clock, with a railway station design, incorporating a chiming Enfield mechanism, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is now in good working order.

This clock features a beautiful dark mahogany case, with a moulded mahogany bezel, a pendulum access door on the underside and a mechanism-viewing door on the left-hand side that allows you to view the mechanism whilst in operation.

This mahogany wall clock houses a quality double brass barrel spring driven Enfield chiming mechanism, which would have been shipped over to India and then cased locally, in order to reduce shipping costs, at the time.

The Enfield wall clock chimes once on the half hour and also every hour to the number of hours. The dial features two holes: The left-hand hole in the dial face is to wind up the clock movement and the right-hand hole is to wind up the chiming movement. This design gives you the option of either having the chiming mechanism enabled or disabled allowing you to choose whether you want the chiming noise to be heard.

The movement has been restored and serviced and is now in good mechanical order, ensuring this clock is reliable and keeps good time. The pendulum, which is attached to the mechanism by accessing the clock from the door below, can be adjusted in length to allow you to regulate the clock speed. The clock comes with a key, which is used to wind the mechanism through the centre of the face dial.

The Enfield wall clock face features a replacement ivory colour tin dial with black Arabic numbering and elegant shaped hour and minute hand. A hinged mahogany bezel houses the glass face that protects the tin dial and face whilst in operation. The brass bezel opens on a right hand hinge to allow you to adjust or set the time. There is a catch to the back of the clock that locks the brass bezel in place and stops it from accidentally swinging open.

The mahogany case has been French polished to give a rich dark mahogany finish. This clock features a “deep dish” case design which means that case is of better quality and is slightly deeper in depth than the 16” clocks. On the back of the clock is a bracket to attach the clock to the wall.

The mahogany station clock boasts brass levelling lugs and pins, which are attached to each side of the clock and are designed to give the clock traction against the wall and allow the angle of the case to be adjusted away from the wall if the clock is hung on wall which is not vertically straight, such as in old buildings.

The chiming wall clock looks great in a variety of rooms and also in either a traditional or contemporary setting – it is ideal as a kitchen wall clock or hallway wall clock. This truly is a very beautiful wall clock of classic styling and quality construction. It will become a member of the family after not too long! So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely wall clock.

History & Provenance:
The Enfield Clock Company (London) Ltd was formed in 1929 at Pretoria Road, Edmonton, London, N18. The first clocks were sold in 1932. The clocks were originally sold for wholesale and export to the British Colonies, predominantly India. They were also selling movements to shops as well as casing them up themselves. In 1933, the Enfield Company was finding it difficult to compete on price so the company was sold to Smiths Industries. This led to the world famous ‘Smiths Enfield’ clocks.

This clock was designed for use in public buildings such as schools or railway stations within the British colonies, predominantly India therefore, its reliability and quality of construction were paramount. This clock is of very good quality and it was constructed prior to wartime restrictions being imposed regarding materials therefore, no costs were spared in its construction.

Setting up the Clock:
The clock may require the pendulum to be adjusted once on the wall. The clock will only work if it is placed on a flat wall in a direct up-right position (not on a side angle). Detailed setup instructions will be included when the clock is delivered.

Dimensions:
External Diameter = 14"
Painted Dial Diameter = 12"

The price for this item is £845 including free delivery to England, Wales & Southern Scotland and 14-day free UK returns.

Nominal old use marks to the case and original tin dial but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The mahogany case is in good condition. The brass-hinged bezel is in good working order, with some play to the hinge. The bezel-locking latch is present and working and prevents the bezel from opening. UK 2-Year Warranty:
A 2-year warranty against mechanical failure is provided commencing from the date of delivery. This warranty does not cover accidental damage (i.e. dropping the clock). In the highly unlikely event there is mechanical failure, we will arrange to have the clock collected free of charge and returned to us for any repair that is required. Once the clock has been repaired, we will then return the clock to you free of charge. Most reasons for the clock stopping are due to the clock not being positioned correctly at the right angle on the wall. This can be easily corrected by re-positioning the angle of the clock to ensure that an even “tick-tock” noise can be heard from the pendulum.
