Description

Poole Pottery large bowl or charger in pattern PLT c1955-59. Footed with flared sides creating a shallow bowl or charger. Decorated in pattern PLT designed by Alfred Burgess Read. This pattern used on Poole Pottery's freeform pieces. The term 'freeform' originally described the shape or form of the piece however this is now commonly used to describe the group of patterns used. With factory mark used from 1955 to 1959 and pattern PLT. The bowl is 32 cm in diameter and 6.5 cm in height.
This bowl is in excellent original condition. No chips, cracks, crazing or restoration. Faint stilt marks from kiln spurs visible at it centre from original firing. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.

With its roots as a tile manufacturer in Dorset, the company (originally called Carter Stabler Adams) began producing Art Deco pottery in the 1920’s. Carter Stabler Adams became Poole Pottery, finding success with its distinctive styles and designs. However financial difficulties led to the closure of the company in 2006 and production of branded "Poole" pottery moved to Stoke-on-Trent.
