Description
Fine quality, early Victorian writing slope in ebony with mother-of-pearl and pewter inlays. Externally the box has delicate mother-of-pearl inlays to lid and front, with pewter lines to all edges. Working lock and key. Hinged lid opens to reveal a leathered writing surface, with further mother-of-pearl and pewter inlays to the interior. Silvered hinges and lock plates. The writing surface houses two compartments below. Fitted desk organiser to the rear of the box with a stationery rack, pen tray, two lidded sections and period pair of screw-top glass inkwells. The box measures 40 cm in width, 24 in depth and 13.5 cm in height. This writing slope is in excellent condition commensurate with age. Very minor historic marks and wear as is to be expected with genuine antiques. Newly re-leathered writing surface. This writing slope has been sympathetically restored in our workshop to a very high standard using traditional methods and materials. Please see further images on our website as these form an important part of the description.
