Description

A fine George III satinwood and kingwood crossbanded, polychrome decorated Pembroke table in the Sheraton style c1790. The table has two drop leaves which lift to form an oval. Oval top with kingwood crossbanding, decorated with a central medallion of acanthus leaves, repeated around the oval border. Each leaf decorated with a classical figure within a medallion together with ribbons and floral swags. Two bow fronted drawers with kingwood crossbands – one fitted with compartments. Kingwood band to lower edge of bow fronted apron, which is raised on four husk decorated, tapered legs with kingwood collars, terminating in brass square-cup castors. Drawers with working locks and key. The table is 71 cm in height. The top with folded leaves measures 55.5 cm in width and 90 cm depth. Maximum dimensions with leaves lifted are 114 cm x 90 cm.
This Pembroke table is in very good condition commensurate with age and use. Visible historic marks, wear and repairs as is to be expected with genuine antique furniture. All joints are solid. Rule hinges to leaves in perfect working order. Drawers run smoothly. This table has been restored in our workshop to a very high standard using traditional methods and materials.
