Description

An attractive and unusual French burr walnut and ebonised foldover card table c1870. The table is of serpentine form with book-matched burr walnut veneers on oak to its top. Hinged leaf enclosing a red baize lined interior. Lower leaf also hinged which opens to reveal an internal compartment. Ebonised moulded edge to both leaves. Solid carved walnut apron and solid carved walnut cabriole legs. Rear cabriole gatelegs with hidden stop-brackets joined by acanthus scrolled solid walnut stretchers to a decorative central pivot. Rear legs with inset pads to protect the opened leaf. Carved and ebonised detailing to apron, legs and stretchers. Unusual gateleg design to include brackets and stretchers together with its quality construction making this a particularly solid foldover table. Perfect as a games table but also as an attractive console table. Closed the table measures 93 cm wide, 42 cm in depth and is 78 cm in height.
In very good condition commensurate with age and use. Historic knocks, marks and wear as is to be expected with genuine antique furniture. Retains its original finish. All joints are sound. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
