Description

A stunning 18th century George II period mahogany triple fold over top card, tea or gaming table. The beautifully shaped Cuban mahogany top raised on shapely cabriole legs with ‘lappet’ carved knees and pad feet, the frieze fitted with a single concealed oak lined drawer. The rear leg having a hinged gate action to support the fold over tops when opened. The top fitted with brass hinges opening to reveal a tea table and a card table with circular dished candle-stick rests to the corners and oval dished ‘guinea wells’ for holding coins or gambling chips. In excellent original condition , retaining the original polished surface which has achieved a superb rich colour and patina. Minor historic marks and scratches to the top surface, commensurate with age, use and purpose. A classic design mid-Georgian period table of practical proportions in fine and usable condition. This card table from the mid 18th century would make a particularly nice games table in a games room, but also would work well just used as side, tea or console table. Circa 1740.
