Description

A gorgeous near pair of very early 18th century candlesticks. I have given c1720 as the date but both have an ejector hole in the sconce, an earlier feature that died out with the solid cast stems. These having hollow stems cast in two halves and sweated together then peined into the base. A silver stick very similar in style is hallmarked 1713 so it is probable that these are English too. I say European because by this time fashions were largely shared by French and Dutch makers along with the English so harder to be completely certain.
