A pair of C19 Parian Ware Copeland figures

Description

A fine pair of Victorian Parian Ware ceramic figures by Copeland and signed Louis Auguste Malempré, dated 1876.
The girl holds a dog under her arm and a jug in her hand. The front part of the base is impressed “Cottage Girl”. The boy has apples in his arm and hand as well as in his pocket. The back of both figures has the impressed Copeland mark as well as the Crystal Palace Art Union mark and L. A. Malempré and are dated 1876.
L. A. Malempré was a Belgian sculptor who worked in Britain from 1849 until his death in 1888.
He was responsible for finishing the marble statue of Queen Anne outside Saint Paul’s Cathedral, in time for the golden jubilee in 1887.
His works are also on exhibit at the American Smithsonian Art Museum.
