Description

Collection of letters from Major Antonio Stephen Ralli of the 12th Lancers (during the Boer War) which are all to his wife, they seem to cover from his original posting to the date of his death out in South Africa, they were posted from many of the battles he fought in and witnessed and discuss prisoners treatment, battles, lack of equipment, Theft of possessions etc. One even mentions that his wife need have no concerns over him pursuing South African women as there all ugly, and that is from the 4-5 I've read. There are 96 letters altogether, a letter from his commanding officer notifying his wife that he had been taken ill in January, he died not long after. there are also 3 sets of written orders. Well worth researching. He went to South Africa in October 1899 and died early March 1900, his letters stopped in Janruary. So he wrote nearly a letter every day he was there, and took part in 3 major battles.

Names include/addresses include.
Modder River. Kadoo Rand Drift, Waterval Onder, Mai Hand Camp, Fosters Farm are the ones I can decipherer. Also includes the letter from his commanding officer letting his wife know of his illness, sadly the illness that would take his life.
